I Remember Dahlonega Vol.4
Volume 4 of “I Remember Dahlonega; Stories about People and the History of Lumpkin
County was published by Chestatee Publications in 1997. The different sub-title
reflects the inclusion of stories about interesting people who did not grow up locally
but moved to Dahlonega later in life, such as such as Sgt. Louis Colombo, who received
a Congressional Medal for his pioneer exploits in Antartica.
The book’s cover features R.D. Hogue, who donated gold from the Josephine Mine
to gild the dome of the State Capitol and the steeple of North Georgia College. Also
included are accounts of the 1836 Lumpkin County courthouse, dredge boats on the
Chestatee River, and the Tugboat “U.S.S. Dahlonega.” Contains 294 pages, 28 interview
articles, 108 historic photographs, and index.
